On July 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a that establishes a fixed time period of admission and an extension of stay procedure that impact students and scholars on F-1 and J-1 visas. The rule is anticipated to take effect Sept. 15, 2026. While Â鶹´«Ã½ analyzes this complex rule, we are working to update our website and communicate guidance as quickly as possible. Members of the Â鶹´«Ã½ international community who have questions are encouraged to reach out directly to their assigned OISS advisor.

Virtual Advising

OISS is pleased to offer virtual advisement for current international students and scholars on Tuesdays & Fridays. Please see the appropriate section below for instructions on how to connect virtually with OISS student advisor during Web-in Tuesday & Web-in Friday hours.

Web-in Tuesdays & Web-in Fridays for Students

Web-in Tuesdays & Fridays are a great way to connect with an OISS student advisor for a quick question via Zoom. Important points:

  • Web-in Tuesdays & Fridays are offered for all current international students except for master's level or exchange students in the Kellogg School of Management.
  • Kellogg students should contact the Kellogg International Advising Team at international-advising@kellogg.northwestern.edu.
  •  If you have a complicated case or need more time, we'll refer you to your assigned advisor for a scheduled appointment.
  •  Web-in Tuesdays: 12:00 - 3:00 PM (CST) every Tuesday except university holidays or break periods. Students will be helped in the order of joining the virtual call.    

 

  • Web-in Fridays: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM (CST) every Friday except university holidays or break periods.  Students will be helped in the order of joining the virtual call.
