Earth Month 2026

sustainNU invites you to join the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ sustainability community in celebration of Earth Month! Throughout April there are events that will help you connect to each other and the planet. Be inspired to reduce your impact and be part of a collective celebration of Earth.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ has participated in Earth Day since the 1970s. We are excited to continue this tradition in 2026!

Teresa Montoya’s Tó Łitso (Yellow Water): Ten Years after the Gold King Mine Spill 

Through June 14, @ The Block Museum

This exhibit explores the impact of the 2015 Gold King Mine spill on Diné (Navajo) communities in the Animas and San Juan watersheds. Combining photography with scientific data and poetic reflection, Tó Łitso invites viewers to consider water not only as a life-sustaining resource but also as a conduit for histories, stories, and harm. In doing so, the exhibition challenges extractive frameworks of land use, centering Indigenous knowledge and resilience. . 

SEED's Earth Month Trivia

Thursday, April 16, Luna's Pub, Norris, 7-9pm, doors open at 6:30

Student's for Ecological and Environmental Development (SEED) will be taking over Luna's Trivia Night for an Earth Month themed event. Gather a team and compete to win. The first five teams to show up get a free appetizer.

Social Justice Career Panel

Tuesday, April 21, 5:30pm, Annenberg G15

Fossil Free NU, ASG Sus Comm, and Climate Action Evanston are hosting leaders from various Evanston-based organizations who will share their stories and lessons learned from decades of social justice work. Audience questions will be followed by a short networking session. 

Bin It to Win It

Wednesday April 22, 11-1pm, Outside Luna's Pub (weather location, inside Norris)

Do you know your recycling from your compost from your trash? Join NU Dining and sustainNU in a test of your waste sorting skills! Place items into the correct bins and snagging some awesome prizes along the way.

Kellogg Climate Conference 

April 22, 8am – 5pm, Kellogg Global Hub

The Kellogg Climate Conference focuses on driving change and solutions towards a more sustainable climate. This year's theme, “True North: Navigating Climate Leadership in a Time of Transition,” explores how organizations across industries are navigating shifting policies and incentives while staying committed to the long-term imperative for climate action. 

Arbor Day Tree Planting

Friday, April 24, two shifts,10am-12pm and 12pm-2pm, meet at the Rock in front of University Hall 

Leave your mark on campus and join Facilities Planning & Sustainability and the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Grounds Crew for a tree planting in celebration of Arbor Day. Enjoy the spring weather and spend time reconnecting to the Earth!

April 25, 2-7pm, Cohen Lawn Stage, Norris

Celebrate the planet with ASG Sustainability Committee. This annual music festival will feature 8 musical acts, activities, thrifting, and food trucks.
