I'm Agnes Bijole-Himes, Class of '27. I'm a Theatre major and I spent summer 2025 in Italy, with the program: Florence: Leading a Renaissance then and now. One of the highlights from this trip was visiting Cinque Terre and going to all 5 villages! Unexpectedly, time management became one of the most useful skills for this trip. I never knew how much I could really accomplish in one day, or how many places I could see in one day until I studied abroad.

Hi my name is Anaya Roman. I am a third-year Journalism major who recently came back from studying abroad with IES Vienna- European Society and Culture. My favorite moments abroad was practicing my german skills and learning how to ski on IES's annual ski trip in the Austrian Alps.

Hi! My name is André Hiroki, I’m from Brazil and a sophomore majoring in Economics and Journalism with a minor in Business Institutions. In Summer 2025, I spent six weeks studying at the London School of Economics. While in London, I made it a goal to organize my schedule so that every day I could explore at least one new spot in the city — and I definitely had a blast! Since then, I’ve become even more excited to keep exploring: there are so many study abroad opportunities out there that I simply can’t stop at just one!

I am a sophomore pursuing a BSc Industrial Engineering, an international student and part of the FGLI community. One of my favorite memories of my time in Korea was randomly meeting the entire Squid Game cast on a random weekday, and feeding the neighborhood cat with the friends I made there! As for some wisdom: don't be afraid to try new things and engage with locals, especially if you are learning the local language too. It's an incredibly rewarding and growth-inducing experience!! In my opinion, everyone should study abroad at least once in their lifetime; you will find new sides of yourself you didn't even know existed!

Hi! My name is Angelina Vaclavik and I am majoring in Chemistry with minors in Spanish and Global Health. I studied in Bilbao, Spain at the University of Deusto with the CIDE Global Studies and Spanish program in Summer 2025. The CIDE program took many different excursions to different cities like Pamplona, Madrid, and Toledo, all of which were incredible, particularly our trip to Pamplona, where we saw the running of the bulls. Bilbao is a beautiful city and I loved being able to be immersed in Spanish culture in a new place!

Hi! My name is Ava Moorhem, and I am a junior studying sociology and Italian. I participated in the Bologna Consortial Studies Program in Bologna, Italy during the Fall 2025 term! My time abroad was filled with four months of good food (Bologna is known as the food capital of Italy!), non-stop travel with 21 cities visited, and a life-time of memories. By participating in a language-intensive program, I was able to develop and strengthen my Italian language skills, which allowed me to integrate myself into the local community and form friendships with people from the city. Most of my favorite memories involve sitting around with my Italian friends, while playing Italian card games! I would love to talk about all things study abroad, especially for fellow first-time travelers and FGLI students!

Hi! I'm Lindsay Beer, a second year studying Biomedical Engineering and Entrepreneurship. Over the summer I spent 5 weeks in Florence as part of the Leading a Renaissance Then and Now program! Between taking part in Lupa contrada traditions, traveling with friends, and immersing myself in both the food and Italian culture, I grew in countless ways. Hi, my name is Bernard Chen and I am a senior studying biology with a minor in global health studies and Chinese language. I studied abroad in Athens, Greece in the summer of 2023. From meeting some really awesome locals to experiencing some of the best ice cream to ever exist, my month in Greece was a time in my life where I really broadened my horizons and became aware of the importance of experiencing different cultures. Do not sleep on studying abroad! I also studied abroad in the Comparative Public Health: Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina program this past summer in 2025. My highlight in Serbia was visiting Nikola Jokic's hometown with my new friends. My highlight in Bosnia and Herzegovina was going to the beautiful city of Mostar and going to museums. These two months were really meaningful to me, from making new friends to exploring such complex yet rich cultures. It is an experience I will never forget.

Hi everyone! My name is Caroline Brody and a I am a third year student studying political science, data science, and marketing. Living and learning in London came with great triumphs and great challenges, yet it was wholeheartedly transformative in the best way. Hi, my name is Cate! I am a junior from California studying economics and environmental science. I spent this past fall in Bologna taking courses at the Università di Bologna and through the Bologna Consortial Studies Program. Over four months, I immersed myself in Italian culture and the language as I lived, cooked, and became friends with my Italian and international student roommates, and explored diverse regions across northern, central, and southern Italy by bike and train. Hi! My name is Chibuzo, and I participated in the 2025 GESI Thailand Program. I’m studying Economics and International Studies in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

My time abroad was filled with unforgettable experiences, from teaching my siblings Nigerian dances and making okra soup for my family and our local temple, to making jokes with my sweet supervisors at my internship. I’ll never forget our spontaneous car rides through town, Sunday Thai tea runs, or the joy of celebrating Mother’s Day with everyone together. Some of my favorite moments were learning Thai from the neighborhood store owner, hiking with my brother, and cooking traditional dishes with my mom.

One of the most meaningful parts of my journey was being given my Thai name, Chaba. My experience abroad taught me so much about community, connection, and joy, and I’ll always cherish the people and memories that made Thailand feel like a second home. We still keep in touch today, sharing photos, recipes, and little updates that remind me how lucky I am to have found a family across the world.

Hi! I'm David, a psychology and global health double major in Weinberg. I spent a summer at Yonsei University in 2025, and it was unforgettable. While abroad, I took courses in psychology, connected with students from all over the world, and explored Seoul. From eating landscape shaped cakes to late night street food runs without a phone, every day was a new adventure, a new experience, a new lesson. Hi! My Name is Destiny Ndubuisi-Obi, and I am a Sophomore in Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. This past summer, I participated in the GESI Uganda program and spent most of my time as an intern at a Secondary school. One highlight of the trip would have to be the homestay. I was able to live with a host family and truly immerse myself in the culture (and also the food!). It gave me the chance to explore my host city, Jinja, more and make new connections with the people there. I also really enjoyed the trips we took to Kampala, Sipi Falls, and Murchison Falls. There, I was able to see the diverse landscape of Uganda and experience the many differences between the regions.

My name is Liz Bair and I am third-year pre-med bio major minoring in both Spanish and Psychology. I spent this past summer in Barcelona, Spain as part of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Spanish Language and Culture Program. This experience was filled with lots of hiking, architecture, paella, art, beach days, Spanish, gelato, and field trips. Immersed in the Spanish culture both through my classes and in the city, I grew so much as a Spanish-speaker, global citizen, and Â鶹´«Ã½ student. Some of my favorite day trips were the most spontaneous ones-beach days in Sitges, a daytrip to Perpignan, France, hikes to the top of Barcelona, and exploring the city by foot. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in the program and look back on my time as the most gratifying, memorable experience I've had at Â鶹´«Ã½.

Hello! My name is Ellen, and I am a senior studying Communication Sciences and Disorders and Global Health. I studied abroad on the Â鶹´«Ã½ Public Health and Development program in South Africa in the spring of 2025. I learned about the challenges facing the South African healthcare system and broadened my knowledge of their politics and culture. I had an amazing experience on this excursion-based program where I kayaked with penguins, saw elephants in the wild, and hiked several mountains! Studying abroad in South Africa was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I cannot recommend the program enough!

Hi! I'm Eva, a third-year student in Weinberg double majoring in Chemistry and Art History. I spent this past summer (2025) in Berlin with NU's "Berlin: Global City in the Center of Europe" program and had a fabulous experience learning beginner German with Humboldt University and visiting numerous cultural institutions with NU. Outside of the classroom, I explored the city's modern art collections, ate lots of Döner, enjoyed free public performances, and traveled to cities across the country!

Hello everyone! My name is Sophie Green and I am a sophomore at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences double majoring in Biological Sciences and Science in Human Culture on the pre-med track, and I am minoring in Spanish. I participated in the Summer Language and Culture Program in Barcelona during the Summer of 2024 and absolutely loved it! It was an amazing opportunity to practice Spanish and be able to travel around Spain and Catalonia!

Hi, I’m Hina! I’m a junior studying Neuroscience on the pre-med track. I chose to participate in a summer study abroad program so I could stay on track with my course schedule during the school year, but I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be able to get a “true” study abroad experience as a result. However, I spent six weeks at DIS Copenhagen this past summer and absolutely loved it! I took two classes on early childhood education so I could gain some insight into my hopeful future career in pediatrics – we spent our school days going on field trips to local Danish kindergartens and museums and also went on a study tour to Finland. Outside of class, my friends and I spent nearly every afternoon swimming in the canals, catching the free Copenhagen Jazz Festival shows, exploring flea markets, eating so many pastries, and having picnics in the King’s Garden right next to our dorm. Hi, I'm Ilya! I did GESI (Vietnam) during Summer 2025 and KCJS (Japan) during Fall 2025. I'm a theatre and computer science dual degree so I thought that studying abroad would be really difficult to do because of the different classes I have to do, and because the programs I did had nothing to do with my majors. But I managed to do it with some planning and I enjoyed both of my study abroad experiences so much! I feel like I learned so much and made so many new connections across the world. Doing study abroad was an incredible experience for me, and I hope that everyone at Â鶹´«Ã½ considers trying it, even if they think their schedule might be too busy!

I absolutely loved my time abroad. From exploring different Italian cities, engaging with locals through traditions like La Lupa contrada, and eating an immense amount of gelato, I was able to learn, grow, and gain a deeper appreciation for immersing myself in new cultures. Hi! My name is Jiho, and I'm a senior studying chemical engineering (but I also like taking film classes whenever I have space). I was abroad in Stockholm with DIS in Fall 2025, surrounded by thousands of beautiful islands on Sweden's eastern coast. Whether it was sustainable engineering or photography, the classes in my program had a strong emphasis on learning from on-site tours and field trips, which was one of my favorite parts of the abroad experience. I was also able to take the train across Europe to popular destinations like Amsterdam and Prague during my free time, but my absolute favorite part of studying abroad was just being able to experience life as everyone else does in a city thousands of miles away from home; slowly becoming a regular at my favorite stores, making friends with locals and other students abroad, and walking around aimlessly around the city to discover new places to add to my "want to go" list.

Hi there! My name is John Kowalski and I was on the Art, Literature, and Contemporary European Thought (ALCET) Program in Paris for the 2025 Fall Quarter. I'm an Art History and Journalism major, and found that my time abroad was incredible! I made fantastic friends, had great food, and got to take full advantage of all that Paris and France had to offer. I think one of my favorite memories was biking around Paris on a lime bike at 11 pm. Seeing the city streets beautifully lit up by the warm glow of the Parisian lights will always remain in my mind. I also remember one time where a group of my friends and I went and swam in the Atlantic on our trip to St. Malo and ended up having an entire beach to ourselves! My program was frankly remarkable and I'm excited to be a GLO Ambassador!

My favorite part of my study abroad experience was meeting new people from not only Singapore but from all over the world as well. My favorite memory from my time abroad was watching the fireworks in Marina Bay during Singapore’s National Day.

Hi! I’m Josephine White and I am a senior studying Journalism, Integrated Marketing Communications, and Entrepreneurship. My absolute highlight from studying abroad was my homestay! My host family in Portugal became like a second family and made my experience so much richer than I ever expected. I also loved traveling, I was basically on a plane to a new country every weekend, soaking up as much culture (and food) as I could!

Hi! My name is Jude, and I'm a political science and international studies major, and a legal studies minor. I went abroad to Thailand the summer of 2025, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Some of my favorite memories from my time abroad include bathing an elephant, visiting over 15 Buddhist temples, climbing up a waterfall, and my first time meeting my host family! It was truly an unforgettable experience, and I couldn't recommend it enough.

Hi! My name is Julia Wolfson, I studied abroad in Athens—summer 2025, and I am a History and Economics major (and maybe a Classics minor)! Some highlights from my time abroad are being able to learn about Ancient Greece in actual Greek ruins, and being able to use my free time to explore the greater Athens area. My name is Jordan Kim and I am studying global health and anthropology. I participated in the Public Health in Europe program during fall quarter of my junior year. Studying abroad was such an unexpected but amazing experience, and I would love to talk about it all. I know many people have broad questions about housing and traveling, but I know that smaller, day-to-day issues (laundry, grocery shopping, navigating to classes, etc.) are also important. I am excited to share it all and to get prospective students excited for their opportunities!

My name is Emma Landsly, and I am a junior studying neuroscience and global health. In the fall of 2024, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Paris through the Public Health in Europe program. Before studying abroad, I didn’t realize that global learning was a viable option for pre-med students. However, I soon realized that not only was it possible, but it also became the most fulfilling experience of my life. The Public Health in Europe program provided me with a global-based background in healthcare, giving me the ability to understand how medicine, culture, and policy interact on an international scale, which will be essential to my future career in medicine.

Hi! My name is Laurien Palmer! I am a current sophomore who participated in the Florence: Leading a Renaissance Then and Now program for Summer Quarter 2025. I am studying Neuroscience with minors in Black Studies and Spanish. While abroad, I got to climb to the top of Brunelleschi's Duomo, as well as take a day trip to Siena, Italy, where at the San Domenico Church, we saw the remains of St. Catherine of Siena, a religious leader who helped broker peace between the Italian city-states. We took advantage of the free weekends by exploring the coastal town of Monterosso, taking a stroll through Vatican City, and touring the Doge's Palace in Venice. I will also never forget the times we tried (and failed) to solve an Escape Room, stayed up all night playing cards, and screaming at the top of our lungs "Bella Ciao" walking back to our apartment.

Hi! I'm Rayna, a sophomore studying Communication Studies, and I studied abroad at DIS Copenhagen for six weeks during Summer 24. Studying abroad was one of the best decisions I've made, and I cannot recommend it enough. I got to learn so much about myself and also learn about a different culture in a way that I otherwise would have not. Studying abroad truly is a special experience, and I've made some of my most fun memories and met the most amazing people while abroad.

Lily Wu is a junior majoring in Data Science and Organizational Behavior. She studied and worked abroad in Milan, Italy, for her SESP Practicum, where she gained hands-on experience in a cross-cultural professional environment while learning to navigate daily life in a new system. Highlights from her time abroad include working in an Italian coworking space, presenting directly to clients, attending business dinners and aperitivos, traveling to Florence for a work trip, and weekend travel across Europe. Outside of work, Lily lived both in a homestay and a residential hall, sharing weekly dinners with her host family, discovering her favorite gelato and carbonara spots with friends, and building patience and adaptability through everyday moments like commuting and participating in Italian-style coffee breaks.

Hello! I'm Luca Martinez, A sophomore currently Majoring in Physics and German! I studied in Berlin over the summer of 2025 in the "Berlin: Global City in the Center of Europe" program. A highlight of the summer was definitely all the museums I went to! Berlin is full of art and history, and the program actually gave us a museum pass for most of the museums in the city! I went to Berlin not having experienced a lot of art in my life, but I left having learned so much about art throughout history and a new found appreciation for museums. The food scene is also amazing in Berlin, döners are just the best and Bürgermeister is the best fast food burger I've ever had, but the best part of food is who you're sharing it with, and the people in my program were all amazing. One of my best memories is getting döners with them and them walking to a nearby park, where we talked and laughed while watching the sunset.

My name is Luluya Tekle and I studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark through the DIS summer 2025 term. I am a second year studying journalism with a possibility of minoring in international studies. I actually am considering a minor because of my study abroad experience in Denmark. I got to meet so many people, a couple of which I still talk to today. My traveling experience taught me so much about beauty, culture, confidence and identity. It taught me to love being awkward and uncomfortable yet brave.

Hello! My name is Malcolm Nyondo and I am a sophomore studying Industrial Engineering. I'm an International Student from Malawi, Southern Africa and had the opportunity to spend my freshman summer in London studying abroad at LSE. I had an incredible time there and got to meet myself and experience life in a holistically new way. Hello all! My name is Mariam Fofana, and I am a participant in CET's Fall 2025 Shanghai Program. I’m majoring in History with a regional concentration in the Middle East and Africa and minoring in Cultural Anthropology and Chinese. From hiking the ancient road of the Salt Way in Shaoxing City to participating in a Banyu Culture performance to even talking with my DiDi drivers in conversational Mandarin, my time abroad has been filled with moments that pushed me beyond my comfort zone and crystallized my love for cultural connection. I’ve also loved eating my way through China, sampling everything from hand-pulled noodles in Chengdu to soup dumplings in Shanghai, and discovering how food tells stories of migration, memory, and belonging. I am excited to share my experiences and encourage other students to see study abroad as an opportunity to travel and rediscover themselves in the world.

My favorite part of the program was being able to get out of the classroom and learn through site visits. I also enjoyed the cultural experiences that were incorporated into this program. Although the four weeks flew by, I was able to make strong friendships and learn from the diverse interests of my peers. During my time in Montpellier, I took classes on the Advanced Language and Culture Track, which were all instructed in French. Living in Montpellier was such a fun and transformative experience, and I fell in love with the city! Hello all! My name is Nicole Sanchez and I am a sophomore majoring in Global Health Studies and minoring in German. I spent my last summer studying abroad in Hanoi, Vietnam as a part of Â鶹´«Ã½'s GESI program. During my time there I completed an internship where I developed lesson plans and taught English to local Vietnamese students. I had an amazing time motorbiking through the mountainous landscape of northern Vietnam, exploring the rich history of the country, and drinking the most delicious fresh fruit juice!

Hi! My name is Katherine Novakovich, and I'm a sophomore studying history, literature, and classics. During my summer with the Athens: Ancient Culture and Modern City program in 2023, I was struck by how the experience of travel can bond people together in unique ways. Hello! I'm Sofia, an Anthropology and Global Health Studies major on a pre-med track. I attended the Comparative Public Health program in Serbia & Bosnia-Herzegovina in Summer 2024, by far the most fun and valuable two months of my time at Â鶹´«Ã½. Through the incredible professors and many excursions, I gained a profound knowledge of the fascinating yet somber realities of the former Yugoslavia. I was able to immerse myself in a completely new world, indulging in the incredible cuisine and taking in all the gorgeous (and mountainous!) sites.

Hi, I'm Julia! I am a theatre, philosophy, and psychology student, and I went to Prague Film School in the fall of 2024. It was everything I could have ever hoped for; however, this had nothing to do with the content of the program (though it was great), but how I was able to dedicate time to self discovery and growth that have allowed me to come back to Â鶹´«Ã½ with a whole new mindset. Through these two very unique and amazing programs I explored how culture, communication, and everyday life intersect across different parts of the world. Some of my favorite memories include navigating local markets in Vietnam, sharing meals with classmates, and spending long afternoons walking through Paris and practicing French in cafés, and traveling across different countries, which was incredibly exciting and helped me get to know the world in a deeper way. :)

Hi! My name is David Samson, a junior from Hartland, Michigan, majoring in Journalism and minoring in Political Science and English. I studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark through DIS in the Fall of 2024 and highly recommend that you do too! During my four months abroad I made so many incredible memories and friends, and really pushed myself to step outside my comfort zone. I travelled to 12 countries, learned to cook (sort of) and discovered the importance of cross-cultural appreciation. By the end of my term, I didn’t want to leave. Hi! My name is Sarah, and I’m majoring in Industrial Engineering and International Studies. I studied abroad Fall 2024 in Paris on the European Union Studies program, and I’ve also studied abroad in South Korea through the State Department's Critical Language Scholarship. Most recently, I interned abroad in Vietnam through the GESI program. I’ve loved my experiences abroad, from traveling, being immersed in the local culture, learning foreign languages, and meeting amazing new people! As a FGLI student, I’ve loved being able to study abroad for free, and they’ve all been unforgettable experiences.

I'm Sophia, a junior from Chicago, and I studied abroad through IES Granada in Spain in Fall 2025. At Â鶹´«Ã½, I study history and international studies with a minor in Business Institutions. One of my favorite memories from my time abroad was the program-led 5-day trip to Morocco where we got to stay with a host family in Rabat; even though our communication was weak through broken English, I was able to practice a bit of my French! During our days in Tangier and Rabat, we got to ride camels, eat delicious couscous and fresh khobz, and meet local university students to talk about political adversities and cultural similarities/differences between us Americans and Moroccans. Additionally, being in Andalucia was such a gift because of all the beautiful Islamic art and architecture embedded in the streets; the IES building's rooftop even had a view of the Alhambra!

Hi! My name is Sofia Sorochinskaia, I'm a junior majoring in Journalism and International Studies. This past summer, I had the opportunity to study at the University of Oxford as part of the Exeter College Summer Programme, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Exploring a 1,000-year-old campus, attending lectures by world-renowned professors, going to beautiful formal dinners, watching football in English pubs, learning British jokes, and making friends from all over the world—every moment was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I enjoyed every second of it.

Hello! My name is Margaret, I studied abroad in New Zealand during Fall 2025. I'm majoring in History and Environmental Policy & Culture and was able to explore new aspects of both majors while abroad. My abroad experience was all about connecting with local and international students, hiking around New Zealand, and learning more about pacific history and society.

Hi! My name is Stephanie and I am a senior majoring in Psychology and Global Health. I studied abroad during the summer quarter of 2025 in the Balkan Experiences: Politics, Health and Social Change program. I truly enjoyed my time abroad and believe that it will be one of my favorite and most fond experiences while at Â鶹´«Ã½. One of my favorite memories of my time abroad is going to hour long lunches with my cohort. We would spend that time talking, enjoying the weather, and eating good food. I made so many good friends through studying abroad so I am truly grateful I got to experience the program.

Hi! My name is Jasmine Sun, and I was in Paris during Fall 2024 on the European Union Studies program. I'm studying MMSS and Statistics, with a minor in Political Science, which aligns perfectly with my abroad coursework! What I loved about my program was that it was directly through Â鶹´«Ã½, meaning that I didn't have to worry about transferring credits, finding housing, or making friends! Being in Paris made it incredibly easy to travel around Europe. Not only did I get to explore other major European cities, but France's extensive train network allowed me to take short trips to smaller French cities that I never would have visited otherwise! In a big city like Paris, I was never bored: there was always a (free) museum that I could roam around, or a garden that I could take a stroll in--my favorite is Rodin, which has both! In Paris, I learned that the locals don't include the word "musée" when referring to a museum; they simply call it by its name. I loved my quarter in Paris, and I can't wait to go back!

Hi My name is Tyree! I spent this summer abroad with the GESI Thailand program. I'm currently a junior studying Environmental Science and minoring in Data Science. During my time abroad, I worked on a community farm in Mae Tha, where I learned about sustainable practices and local collaboration. One of my favorite memories was going to the night market and trying new foods with friends, it was such a fun way to experience Thai culture!

Hi my name is Christina (she/her)! I am current junior studying Psychology and Global Health. I studied in the Comparative Public Health Program: Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina in the summer of 2024. While my time abroad I learned about the history of both countries and the post-war challenges they face. I also learned about the healthcare systems set in place in the countries and the current health disparities. My name is Atziry and I am majoring in Data Science and Communication Studies. My program for Summer 2023 was Berlin : Global City in the Center of Europe. This past summer was the highlight of my Â鶹´«Ã½ experience thus far and it is a program I would greatly recommend. I got to travel within and outside Germany, immerse myself in German culture and meet students from all over the world.

I spent my summer 2023 quarter studying abroad in Florence taking Team Leadership and Social Network Analysis. I really enjoyed travelling throughout Italy and the immersive experience of seeing history and culture unfold around me. My name Yasmin Zaiani and I am a junior majoring in LOC and Cognitive Science. This past fall, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy, through the SU Abroad program. Hi my name is Teta Zita Gloria Ineza but most people just call me Zita. I studied abroad in the Fall of 2025 as part of the Public Health in Europe program. I am currently in my junior year majoring in Biology and Global Health with a French minor. My time in France was honestly the best time I have had as an Undergrad. Not only do you get to discover a whole new culture but you also get to make friends at the host university as well as within your cohort. One of my best memories of my time in France was a visit we had to the boulangerie, where we learnt how to make french pastries and even got to take the baguettes home.
